Kangaroo Zoo
The other day, we went to Kangaroo Zoo with Nate's playgroup friends instead of having playgroup at someones house. The boys had a total blast. The kids were Jacob, Jake, Ty, Pacen, Nate, Zach, Camry, and Adam. It's a place close to our house that has a bunch of the huge inflatable toys, slides, and such. Nate had been there once before, but Zach had never been. When we got there, they were off and running. I kept losing Zach because every time I'd turn around, he was running somewhere else! I hung out with Zach for a while and then, towards the end Nate and Zach and I hung out for a while. The boys even made me go on multiple slides with them. We all had a really fun time and they were totally exhausted at the end. The pictures aren't fabulous because they were with my point and shoot and the kids were just too fast! Here are some of the pictures:

Temple open house
So, on Thursday night we went to the Draper temple open house with my parents and Uncle Shawn. Nate was excited and we talked before about the temple and why it's important. He was really excited to go. The boys were also thrilled about seeing Grandpa and Grandma. It was neat experience, especially for Nate, to see the inside of the temple. They were both really good. Nate really thinks Uncle Shawn is cool and held his hand through most of the tour. He turned me down a couple of times because he wanted to hold Shawn's hand instead. Zach was really good and stayed with Grandpa for most of it. He didn't quite grasp the concept of a quite voice and made some loud comments about pretty lights and stuff, but he's cute so he could get away with it. By the end of it, he was done. We got to one room where you could sit down and listen to someone for just a minute. At that point, Zach was done with being quiet and started crawling under chairs and away from me. Thankfully, we only stayed in the room for a minute and then the tour was over. We got to have light refreshments and the ride a bus, which was probably Zach's favorite part of the night. I was really glad we got the chance to go through since it made the temple seem more real for Nate. I don't know if he'll remember it as he gets older, but it gave us a good chance to talk about things.
Swimming
So, last Saturday, we went swimming at a local swimming pool. I didn't take pictures since we don't have a waterproof camera. I know it's hard to believe that since our family seems so obsessed with cameras. Anyhow, we ended up going with Brit, Ross, and Bre. When we first got there, the "big kids" were in the hot tub so we went to the pool to play. I little while later, everyone came to join us. They ended up playing with the boys for pretty much the entire time. We had fun and I just love that their aunts and uncles will play with them. The boys had a great time and Nate's talked a couple of times about how he wants to go again soon.
Nate's B-day
So, Nate's b-day was at the beginning of the month. We had a primary activity the morning of his birthday. When he got home, he thought his party, where family was going to come for cake and ice cream, would be that night. He was very brokenhearted when he found out it wasn't until the next day. He was consoled by being able to open up his presents from us that day. We got him a new scooter, a leapster game (both on sale of course!) and a little lego set. He was pretty comatose with the leapster game for the first little bit. Zach loved that because he was trying to ride Nate's scooter and did really well. When Nathan finally realized he got the scooter, he wanted to ride it. We worked things out by having Nate give his old scooter to Zach, which is actually easier for Zach to ride anyhow. They have both loved the scooters and will be excited when it warms up more outside.
We took him out to dinner for his birthday and let him choose. He said he wanted "alien pancakes" that are at Denny's so that's were we went. It turns out they have free kids meals on Tuesday and Saturday nights, so the boys ate free. Bonus! When the server found out it was Nate's birthday, he brought out cool cups for the boys to keep and gave us all ice cream as well. Everyone around us told Nate happy birthday as well. The boys had a lot of fun and we were really touched about how kind the server was. It was a really fun night.
The following Sunday, we had family and friends come over for cake and ice cream. The boys were thrilled to see family and had a blast. Nate opened some presents first, and then we did the cake. We had the cake in front of him, with the candles lit and everyone singing happy birthday and Nate was totally oblvious because he was playing with a toy his aunt and uncle gave him. We finally got him to pay attention and he blew out the candles. Silly goose! It was great to have family over and we're so glad that they are supportive.
The following Thursday, we had some of Nate's friends come over for playgroup at our house, which we used as a birthday party. When I asked Nate what he wanted to do for his birthday, he said he wanted to do a volcano. We've done simple volcano's before at our house during playgroup with just the standard water, food coloring, baking soda and vinegar. The boys have loved it and ask for it almost every time we have playgroup at our house. The just laugh and laugh and laugh. It's fun to watch their reactions.
Anyhow, Aunt Jane asked what we were doing for Nate's birthday and I told her he wanted to do a volcano. She offered to come down and do different science experiments with the boys. I asked Nate if he wanted Jane to come down and he did. I thought it was very sweet that she offered.
During Nate's party, they got to do a couple of different types of volcanos, see crystals "grow", watch food coloring drops make stars, and color a bag with markers and watch the colors spread when we put rubbing alcohol on them. Oh, and they also got to play with a ton of balloons. I think they had a great time. Zach has become very attached to the bag he has made and has taken it, loaded with stuff, to the store, the doctors office and lots of other places.
Anyhow, it was fun to celebrate his birthday and it's hard to believe he's five now. where has the time gone?

Update
So, I've been sick for the past week, but I thought I'd put together a quick update, and then I'll do more posts with pictures later today or tomorrow.
Our big news that we're finally letting people know about is that we're expecting our third child this summer. The due date is July 1st so, I'm almost five months along. I think we'll probably do the ultrasound the second week in February, so we'll hopefully find out if it's a boy or a girl really soon.
One of the reasons we waited to tell people was that I wanted to tell Nathan first. We told Nathan in December, and he was really excited because he's, on his own, talked about a baby sister since January of last year. After Nathan found out, he called Grandma's and Grandpa's to tell them the news. My dad really got a kick out of it and really enjoyed it. Nathan's really excited about it and has told people out of the blue that we're going to have a baby.
I was really worried about telling my brother and sister-in-law about our news since she's been on fertility drugs for the last year with no success. They were talking about adoption and I was concerned about how they would take it. I'm glad I waited to tell them because the day I called them, it were actually planning on telling everyone that night that they were expecting too! She's due in September and is just giddy. I'm so excited for them!
Jeff has been giddy about his camera. He recently got a flash and a fancy new tripod and has just been thrilled. He's gone out for night pictures the last couple of nights and has just loved it. He'll start talking about ISO's and stuff and it's all over my head. He's learned new tricks from photography forums for night pictures and such and has loved it. I'll have to post some of his pictures soon. He sent me a link a little while ago to his "new love". It's an SLR camera where the body alone, no lens, is about $9,000. I told him to dream on, you can buy a car for that! I don't think we'll be doing that any time soon! He also told me he had "lens envy" the other day. He went up to Farmington Bay since the eagles are out and there were a couple of guys out there with lens about the size of his car. That was also a, dream on honey, not any time soon!
I also had the realization that we're old. I was thoroughly enjoying reading part of a college textbook the other day, just because. And, we watched a movie last weekend with Jeff's sister and brother-in-law and talked finances, specifically Dave Ramsey stuff, for a half hour afterwards. Yup, we're old.
Nathan has loved preschool with Miss Melva's and has been doing well. We were working on sounding out and reading words the other day and he was doing really well. They're just small words, but it's a big improvement. I've been really impressed with Miss Melva's and highly recommend her to anyone in the area. Nate has just loved it. He would fight me with different things like practicing writing his name, but will happily do that stuff for Ms. Melva. Silly goose. I think he'll really enjoy kindergarten next year. Registration is the end of February, and it just seems surreal that he'll be in school in just a few months. Time flies by.
I had a really enjoyable time with him yesterday. I was folding laundry yesterday and didn't feel well (this stupid cold) and so I laid down for a minute. Nathan came up and laid down on the bed next to me. He just wanted to talk. We talked about all sorts of things including church stuff, school stuff, things he did with his friends. It was really fun to just sit and talk to him and listen to his thoughts. He's such a good kid.
Zach is such a silly goose. He's definitely in the "I do it all by myself" phase. He wants to do everything on his own. Some things are great, like that he's getting his shoes and socks on by himself. Most of the time they are even on the right feet! I put a stool in the bathroom for him and he likes to be independent with going potty, so that's a huge improvement too. He's also climbing into his crib by himself. He climbs up, and ends up diving head first into the crib. He really need to get him a big boy bed and will probably make the transition soon. I'm just worried about what he's doing to do with the freedom of getting out of bed on his own. We'll see.
Zach is also talking up a storm and he's fun to listen to is thoughts. He broke my heart the other day though. I just go to work on Tuesdays and I'll always call when Jeff picks up the boys at 3:00 p.m. and then before bedtime so I can say goodnight. Zach was talking to me and, on his own, said "Mom, come home". It broke my heart. Nathan made the comment at dinner the other day that, Mom, I think Zach likes you more than Dad". I don't know what the deal is with Zach because he just adores Jeff and loves him to pieces. There are lots of times where he wants Jeff to do everything and will throw a fit if I try to buckle him in his car seat instead of Jeff. There are other things, like getting him out of his bed in the morning, that he only wants me to do. He's such a silly goose.
Finally, I'm trying to decide what to do. I've been encouraged to go to law school by a number of people, including seasoned lawyers. I've been told I have all of the skills, but just need that expensive piece of paper saying I can practice law. I met with a pre-law advisor the other day and I do back and forth about if it's what will work for my family. I refuse to go to law school with having little kids at home, so the soonest I would go would be in about six years, possibly ten years or more. I'm not sure. Part of me thinks that I should go for it because that was my plan before I met Jeff. The other part of me reminds me that I'd rather just be home and be a mom instead of working and so why should I go through all of that? Especially after Zach's comment the other day about "Mom, come home". My plan would be to only work part time anyhow. I guess I have lots of time to decide. Just something I've been pondering and not totally sure if it'll work for me. Men have it so much easier with this stuff.
Ok, enough thoughts and ramblings. Next time I'll post fun pictures instead.
