Preschool graduation

Zach graduated from preschool with Miss Melva on Thursday! We were so proud of him, and how hard he has worked in preschool. He's done a great job, especially with him being the youngest or at least one of the youngest since he doesn't turn 5 until August 20th. I've debated since I was pregnant on when to put him in school. We're going to try it and see how it goes. So far, he has done great in preschool and we are very proud of him!
Graduation was at 6:00 p.m. and I thought I had everything under control. I had a nice dinner made, the kids were eating, and Jeff had switched his schedule so he could come. I had brownies made, and were ready to go. I had even invited Grandmas and Grandpas and thought we were set. It was time to get dressed, and I pulled Zach's church clothes out since he was supposed to go in his best dress. And that's when the meltdown started.
Zach was mostly dressed, but I had laid out his vest to wear with his church clothes and he didn't want to put it on. The problem was, we needed to leave in a minute and these pants didn't look right without his vest. I really wanted him to look nice, it was his graduation after all. He asked him to wear his vest and we ended up with a total meltdown. Grandma and Grandpa (Jeff's parents, i.e. Disneyland Grandma and Grandpa) had shown up and I even asked them to help. It was now 6:00 p.m., and we were late. I ended up putting the vest on him, with tears down his face, and we ran out the door. I finally figured out that he didn't want his preschool friends to see his vest because it was only for Sundays. On the way there, we explained that this was "best dress" which is usually our church clothes, and that it was just fine. By the time we got to Miss Melva's the tears were dried and he was as happy as can be.
Zach did a great job with the graduation, and we were very proud of him. I have adorable video saved to embarrass him when he gets older. I love you Zach!

Pirate day/Drama Queen!

So, we made it through Pizza day at school. One of the next days that the First Grade celebrated was Pirate day, where everyone in the first grade could dress up as a pirate. Sadly, we don't have a pirate costume. I was planning on trying to get an eye patch or something, but never remembered to. We came down to Sunday night, trying to figure out a pirate costume, and I was getting desparate because I didn't want a repeat of "pizza day". I was able to find clothes that would work, but I wanted something a little more. I called up Jeff's parents to see if they had anything, but they didn't. I then called my parents, and my mom said they weren't home, but she thought they still had a wig that would work great for pirate day. She said she would call me when she got home and we could arrange to come and get it. A little while later, my dad called me and said he would be a "pineapple grandpa" instead of an "olive grandpa" (see description of pizza day, the smart aleck) and bring it over to us.
A little while later, my parents came over to drop off the wig. They riled up my kids, like the always do, and made them extra crazy. My mom was being REALLY goofy, and telling them the story of goldilocks and the three bears with crazy voices, and three stuffed animals. Anyhow, it was a pretty crazy night and they were all pretty excited, including my mom.
Both of my parents informed me that Addi was pretty stinky, and needed a diaper change. Actually, she was REALLY stinky. I took her into her room to be changed, which she was not happy about at all. Since it was nearing bedtime, I told the boys they needed to get their pajamas on. Addi was really mad at me about getting her diaper changed, but when I finished the boys needed something so I asked Jeff to get her pajamas on. She was already mad at me about the diaper change, and now she got mad at Jeff for getting her pajamas on. After I helped the boys, I sat back down on the couch to talk to my parents. Jeff joined me a minute later after getting pajamas on a screaming Addi.
A minute later, Addi came out of her room with a "look of death"/sad face. I was on the other side of the room, but held out my arms to comfort her and give her a hug. She looked at me, and then screaming into the nearby bathroom and slammed the door! She stayed in pitch dark bathroom for a minute or two, until she came out the bathroom with her "look of death", and sat on Grandpa's lap. She wanted absoultely nothing to do with me, all because I changed her stinky diaper. I'm such a mean mom. Please keep in mind, she's not even two years old. Heaven help me! During this entire tantrum, my parents were laughing so hard, I thought they were going to pass out. They later said, maybe the angels in heaven all breathed a sigh of relief when Addi came to earth. I love her so much, but I'm just not sure if I'll make it through her childhood!
My parents left a short time after, and we got the kids into bed. During his bedtime prayer, Nathan said, "and thank you for grandma and grandpa saving the day for pirate day". Apparently it meant a lot to him.
The next morning, we got Nathan all ready for pirate day, including drawing a mustache on his face. He looked pretty good and he really appreciated having the wig, since he told me a couple of times "thank you for calling Grandma and Grandpa". Such a sweetheart.

I'll be brave Mom....

For some background, this is the last month of 1st grade for Nathan. He's had something fun to do with the rest of the first grade every school day this month. One day, it was sidewalk chalk day. Another was bubble day. Every day has been fun, and some have required a little extra work from mom. I tried to be on top of things, but I messed up on pizza day. Nathan was supposed to bring his favorite pizza topping. We talked about it, and he decided he wanted to bring pineapple, which is my personal favorite.
I thought for sure we had a can of pineapple in the cupboard and I was covered. It was a Wednesday, but I thought I would pick up a can at the store when I went. I wasn't able to get to the store until after Nathan got home from school, and then I had to rush and put all of the kids in the car for a trip to Walmart for a handful of things. It was pure chaos, as it usually is when my kids step into Walmart, but we got most of the the things on our list. We didn't get home until about 5:45, and I was rushing around to get dinner ready and out the door for soccer practice at 6:00 p.m. Thankfully, there is snow or rain and we didn't have practice. However, once we were home, I realized we forgot the can of pineapple. I was still pretty sure we had one on the cupboard, but didn't have time to look. Jeff came home from work for a couple of minutes, and then headed out the door to Young Men's. I got the kids fed, did homework, cleaned up, and eventually put them to bed around 8:00 p.m.. I finally looked for the can of pineapple. Sadly, it wasn't there. I was dead tired but that time, but thought I would go to the store when Jeff got home. When 8:55 rolled around and I wasn't home, I texted him, asking him to get the can of pineapple. Sadly, he didn't' get the text until he walked in the door. I was SO TIRED by then, and I was still getting packed and ready to go to the office the next day. For those of you who don't know, or don't realize, I work from home, and go into the office one day a week. However, I cram as much as I can on that one day as possible. This means I usually get up at 4:10 a.m..
Anyhow, I was already tired, and had to get up really early the next day. I just couldn't bring myself to go to the store unless I had to. I called my friend who is a couple houses up to see if she had a can of pineapple, or even olives because Nathan LOVES olives. Thankfully, she had a can and I was able to borrow it. All was happy and good. I had a pizza topping, and life was grand, so I went to bed.
The next morning, I woke up before anyone should, and headed on my merry way to work. As I always do, I called home at 8:05 a.m. to see if the kids were up and say good morning before Nate went to school and life got busy. I explained to Nate over the phone that I didn't have a can of pineapple, but had olives for him to take instead. He started sobbing, and so I asked him what was wrong. He said he didn't know. this went on for a while, until he finally calmed down and said "I'll be brave Mom, I'll take the can of olives". Needless to say, I know have a can of pineapple in my cupboard and that will be on my list of food storage stuff in the future. He was thankfully brave, and made it through the day with a can of olives.

The goal...

I'm baaacckk! Frankly, I've been a huge slacker. I realize it. I really do. My excuse is that life has been INSANE, but that's still not a very good excuse. I've been thinking for a while that I need to be better about journal writing. Which, for me, is blogging. Frankly, it's the only way that I'll do it. Life has had so many hilarious moments, that I have to be better about writing them down. So, here's my goal. I'm going to try to write at least one thing every day, or at least hopefully every other day. If you're following me, I hope you enjoy this fantastic journey with me. If you're sick of it, by all means take me off your blog role. This is for me and, hopefully the rest of my family, to enjoy. I have a plaque saying in my house that says "Enjoy The Journey" and I certainly hope to. You're welcome to join the ride!

Nathan quotes

Nathan is such a sweet kid and I am constantly amazed at the things he says and does. Last week, we were driving by the Miunt Timpanogos temple and Nathan talked about that benign his temple. We talked about how that was were Jeff and I got married. Nathan asked me if I always wanted to have three kids. I told him that I always wanted to have three kids. Nathan's violent was , "mom, then your dreams came true!" he is such a sweet kid! I have thought a lot about that lately. Even if life us far from perfect, I really have realized lately that my dreams have come true. We saw Super Grandma tonight and I told her about that conversation. Tonight at bedtime, Zach told me, "Mom, I'm glad your dreams came true". Such sweet kids!
Last Sunday, we were sitting in sacrament meeting and Zach was playing with some toys from my bag and Nathan picked out his scriptures and started reading them. Nate told Zach, "Zach, do you want me to read scriptures to you because scriptures are better then toys." Nathan then started reading his scriptures and found a verse that said, "'and he was obident to the Lord". He told me that was a very important scripture and wanted to mark it. We waited to get home and he found a colored pencil to mark the scripture. He has been reading more lately and marking more on his own. He is such a special kid.
Jeff was laughing really hard the other day because the other day Nathan said to zach, "don't hit me in the tenders!" so funny!
